About
Mutts Life are the musings of a man inspired by and completely besotted with his family pet, a cross breed stray dog now variously referred to as “Lady Muck”, “The Menace”, “Wermin” or “Don’t Even Think About It!”
Adopted as an 8 month old puppy from the local SPCA her new owners proud description of her as a “Fox Terrier X” drew hoots of good natured derision from other (dog loving) family members. Her patch work quilt appearance – small head, big ears, long – at that time starved but now a touch over weight – torso, relatively long legs, big paws and unfeasably curly and bushy tailed physique did little to dispel their derision. Nor did her clear street smarts or high energy enthusiasm for all things moving, soft, smelly or edible (and not necessarily in that order).
Within days, if not minutes, she had won us all over.
We’ve lived with and loved dogs all our lives and if we’re honest we probably chose to adopt the Menace from the SPCA because we thought it would make us feel good “rescuing” an animal.
We had no idea that her energy and character would soon be blurring the lines between who was rescuing who.
