A Simple Recipe that Dogs Love

Food is never a subject far from your dogs mind. If it is he might be sick so get him checked out.

The staple in my dogs diet is a top quality dry pellet brand.  They love (and need) some variety though and this is a recipe for dogs mince I stole from my mother…

  • 500 grams good quality pets mince.
  • 2 X carrots, finely grated.
  • Handful of green beans, finely chopped.
  • 2 Tablespoons cooking oil.
  • 2 slices brown bread, crumbed.
  • quarter cup chicken\beef stock.

Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl. Transfer to a baking dish you have prelined with cooking foil (just spread the mix out across the whole dish).  Preheat the oven to 180 degrees (Centigrade) and bake for approx. 1 hour (note: this time is based on a shallow baking tray – add more time for deeper dishes – and check the progress often until you are familiar with your oven and cooking utensils).

This quantity makes about one baking tray (35cm X 25cm X 10cm) but you can increase the ingredients according to your needs – just keep the ratio’s roughly the same.

I break the cooked food up into smaller containers and freeze what I don’t need.

The finished product is too crumbly and greasy for my liking as a training treat (you can’t beat liver bread for that) and not suitable as a full meal on it’s own – but I mix in a small amount with the pellets and the dogs appreciate the variety.
